Carbon Monoxide Dector From First Alert: Steady red light & chirping every 20 seconds or so.?

What does this mean? I have a First Alert: Carbon Monoxide Detector and the red light is steady and there is a chirping. I do not know what the alarm sounds like so I'm wondering if maybe the alarm is going off? (I have moved to fresh air) Could it be that the battery is dead?
