I am looking for a betta expert to talk to - please help!?

Hello, I have had my male VT betta for about 3-4 weeks now and I am still so confused. I have been going back and forth for 3 weeks now about whether or not to filter his tank or not. I have a 2 gallon Eclipse II tank with a built in filter & bio wheel. I've been posting on a lot of betta forums and talking to pet stores and overall, the majority of people have led me to believe that unless I properly cycle my tank, it is useless to run my filter. So finally I (thought I) made my "final" decision Tuesday to NOT filter him and to give him 100% water changes 2x per week. But now today I was in a pet store today and the fish guy in there has me completely confused again. He told me that because I have a bio wheel, I should just run my filter and even if I do 100% water changes, the tank will still cycle because it grows good bacteria on it. Now, when I asked on a betta forum about this, they told me it was not true and that I would HAVE to cycle the tank to make the filter worth running.
