Illegal Immigration question.?

Ok so ive always wondered about this.. Say a child is brought into the US when they are little. They live here illegaly for years. Since its hard for them to stay, cant they just leave their parents and go back to their country with other family there before turning 18 (say 17) and avoid being penalized for it?? If they have a pport up to date and everything. Cant they just leave?
