What codec should i download for windows media player to play .mkv video files?

I was wondering if there is a codec for WMP to play .mkv files, cause I hate using VLC when playing .mkv movies, especially if it has subtitles. It crashes alot and does'nt display the subtitles correctly like, the text overlaps making it hard to read.
