Where do i begin looking?

About a year or 2 ago i got a call from someone telling me that my old x boyfriend died. He was a UPS driver and recently remarried and relocated upstate N.Y. An obituary was posted in a local paper and i never got to see it and am looking for it now.How would i begin to find this obituary, i am not sure of the paper but can check a few names How do i go back to old posted obituaries? The funeral was held here in N.Y.
